A Simple 2D Non-Parametric Resampling Statistical Approach to Assess Confidence in Species Identification in DNA Barcoding—An Alternative to Likelihood and Bayesian Approaches

چکیده
In the recent worldwide campaign for the global biodiversity inventory via DNA barcoding, a simple and easily used measure of confidence for assigning sequences to species in DNA barcoding has not been established so far, although the likelihood ratio test and the bayesian approach had been proposed to address this issue from a statistical point of view. The TDR (Two Dimensional non-parametric Resampling) measure newly proposed in this study offers users a simple and easy approach to evaluate the confidence of species membership in DNA barcoding projects. We assessed the validity and robustness of the TDR approach using datasets simulated under coalescent models, and an empirical dataset, and found that TDR measure is very robust in assessing species membership of DNA barcoding. In contrast to the likelihood ratio test and bayesian approach, the TDR method stands out due to simplicity in both concepts and calculations, with little in the way of restrictive population genetic assumptions. To implement this approach we have developed a computer program package (TDR1.0beta) freely available from ftp://202.204.209.200/education/video/TDR1.0beta.rar.

Empirical Likelihood Approach and its Application on Survival Analysis
A number of nonparametric methods exist when studying the population and its parameters in the situation when the distribution is unknown. Some of them such as "resampling bootstrap method" are based on resampling from an initial sample. In this article empirical likelihood approach is introduced as a nonparametric method for more efficient use of auxiliary information to construct...
متن کاملSpecies identification reveals mislabeling of important fish products in Iran by DNA barcoding
This study reports on the molecular identification of fish species from processed products which had a priori been classified as belonging to 5 important species in Iran for human consumption. DNA barcoding using direct sequencing of an approximately 650bp of mitochondrial Cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene revealed incorrect labeling of Narrow-barred Spanish mackerel samples. High occurre...
متن کاملA Bayesian Nominal Regression Model with Random Effects for Analysing Tehran Labor Force Survey Data
Large survey data are often accompanied by sampling weights that reflect the inequality probabilities for selecting samples in complex sampling. Sampling weights act as an expansion factor that, by scaling the subjects, turns the sample into a representative of the community. The quasi-maximum likelihood method is one of the approaches for considering sampling weights in the frequentist framewo...

متن کاملEstimation in Simple Step-Stress Model for the Marshall-Olkin Generalized Exponential Distribution under Type-I Censoring
This paper considers the simple step-stress model from the Marshall-Olkin generalized exponential distribution when there is time constraint on the duration of the experiment. The maximum likelihood equations for estimating the parameters assuming a cumulative exposure model with lifetimes as the distributed Marshall Olkin generalized exponential are derived. The likelihood equations do not lea...
